Bulgarian Cuisine

Bulgaria is a beautiful country found deep in the south eastern corner of Europe and is the gateway between east and west. Bulgaria is also the place of birth for European civilisation through the Thracian race. Due to this long history where east and west meet Bulgaria carries a wonderful array of different types of food that can only be found in this wonderful country.

Bulgarian food is a beautiful mix of Mediterranean cuisine with a hint of eastern flavour. There are a great many dishes that are eaten on a daily basis which are truly wonderful to taste.

Because Bulgaria is a small country that has only just become a tourist destination to those of the west, the Bulgarian cuisine has not been seen or tasted by many. Below is just a taster of what is on offer to those who wish to mature their palette.

Banitsa

Banitsa is a wonderful dish that can be eaten hot or cold and as part of a meal or on its own. This dish is made from Sirene (Bulgarian cheese very much like Greek Feta) and filo pastry. Being very simple to make it is surprising how tasty this amazing dish is.

Tarator

A wonderful cold summer soup made with walnuts, yoghurt, water and garlic. This amazing dish is just what you want during those long hot summer days when you want something cold and thirst quenching.

Kufte

Another great dish that is a mix of lamb, pig and spices mixed together into a fairly large meat ball. This may look like a hamburger to some but after tasting the succulent meat mixed with wonderful fragrant and tasty spices, it is mouth watering to say the least.

Summary

Bulgarian food is an amazing experience that your taste buds will savour for time to come. For those who wish to try something new, why not try Bulgarian cuisine?
